I have always been an artist in one form or another. I began my career as a dancer and choreographer. When injuries prevented me from returning to the dance studio, I began to search for different ways to satisfy my creative brain. For me, the ideas for projects came first which meant I had to quickly learn the techniques required to fulfill my vision. I credit my dance training to giving me the discipline and drive to continuously fail, repeat, then improve. A great deal of experimentation took place during this time which led me to my current practice working with wood, paper and porcelain.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
The main inspiration for my work comes from Shinrin-Yoku, the Japanese term meaning ‘Forest Bathing’, or taking in the forest atmosphere for health and wellness benefits. The experience of being in nature is truly at the heart of my creative process. It helps me find inspiration both in the physical form and also as a tool to process my ideas as they come to mind. Spending time in nature helps me filter and organize my ideas into the abstract. It is my vision that the viewer of my work will find their own personal connections within it.
Through my experimentation process I have developed a technique to create my wood panels using wood stain without a brush! The colors are poured onto the wood soaking into some spots more than others. As the different colors start to blend and move around the panel, I get to witness my art developing like a polaroid picture!
